Matt and Sherlyn arrived about 9:30 while we were getting ready for church. They had gotten up really early and caught an early flight because they had originally planned on going to a soccer game that afternoon. It was great to see them and to finally be all together again! Doug and I left along with Derek, Shelby and Zoë to attend Sacrament Meeting in Santa Ana. It was nice to be there and I was reminded of the scripture in Mosiah 25:22 that says “they were all one church, yea, even the church of God.” It’s so nice to attend church anywhere in the country/world and find the same comfortable feeling and be able to partake of the sacrament. Zoë was a bit restless but there was a kind lady sitting in front of us (turned out to be the ward nursery leader) who had a large bag of Cheerios and gold fish crackers that she kept sharing with Zoë. It was cute and made me smile. The meeting was great and I was glad that we made the effort to attend and that Derek and Shelby attended with us.
We went home and changed, had some lunch, and by then the drizzling rain had cleared so we decided to drive to the beach. Chad, Anney and boys had gone earlier and we got an SOS from Anney to please bring dry clothes for Finley to Newport Beach. He and Chad had been wading in the ocean when he tripped, fell and got soaked and after that he just played in the water until he got cold. We gathered up some clothes for him and then left with Derek, Shelby and Zoe. Matt and Sherlyn were tired and were taking a nap. The weather was a bit cool but the kids had fun running around and digging in the sand. Zoë is happy as long as she has a stick and Finley was just happy to have grandpa there.
Chad and gang left to get Finley changed and to find something to eat. We invited them to go eat with us but they wanted to do something on their own so the rest of us went to the Spaghetti Factory for dinner. Zoë was overtired and threw a few tantrums but overall was really good considering how tired she was and what an upheaval her life has been in lately. (Moved to Grandma Ostler’s house; stayed with a cousin for 10 days while her parents were on a trip; back to Grandma Ostler’s house; now in California...and that’s just the start of their crazy summer!)
When everyone got back to the house that night I decided it was time to start passing out grandma goodies to the grandchildren. I brought Ari's monster quilt, toys and outfit; Toy Story legos for Finley and Disney princess cars for Zoe (more toys to be handed out later in the week). The kids were happy with their toys and I think Anney liked the quilt.
