We just got back from a five day camping trip to my favorite place in the world, my "happy place" Moon Lake. There are more beautiful parts of the world but none that calm my soul and restore me than Moon Lake. I've been going there since I was a little girl and my parents and their parents before that. Now that my brother's children are taking their children it has become a five-generation tradition for us. What is so magical about the place? The memories of past trips has a lot to do with the joy I feel there. The peace and silence there is another plus. At times the quiet is complete and you're left with a feeling of peace that can't be described. Slowly the sounds begin again with the breeze rippling through the tall quakies, the chatter of a squirrel, the whir of a hummingbird and so it goes but it doesn't compare to the cacophony of sound we face at home when we once again enter the real world. At one point I found myself on the beach and turning to look in each direction I could not see another person as far as I could see. In this busy world it's a wonderful feeling to just get away sometimes and have some quiet, peace and solitude. Of course, just up the trail was the cabin, the campfire and my family and so the joy intensifies to realize that the people I love the most are there enjoying it with me. At night the stars were magnificent without the light pollution of the city to hinder our view of them. Gazing up through the pines and quaking aspen at the gorgeous light show I felt as the poet who said "God's in His heaven, all's right with the world."
