Leaving paradise

Up early to take advantage of the last few hours at my happy place. I don't know if anyone else is awake although I think I got a whiff of bacon when I passed by Chad and Anney's cabin. I walked for a bit, found a log to sit on, and said goodbye to the lake while pondering on the last few days and the past several years. It's so refreshing to come to a place that almost seems timeless. Not much has changed in the 50+ years I've been coming and I hope nothing changes in the next 50 years. It's great to disconnect from the busy world and find a place of solitude and beauty where you can reconnect with family and take time to ponder on priorities which seem to get really muddled in day to day busy living.

Within 30-45 minutes there will be scurrying and a bustle of activity while everyone packs up for our return to reality. I think I'm just going to drink in the peace for a few more minutes.

The adventure continues

It's nap time at Moon Lake so time for me to get caught up a bit. We've had a fun few days and I'll be sad to leave for home in the morning. It's a bit cooler today and windy but still lovely. We watched Finley this morning for a while so Chad and Anney could go out in the kayaks. Doug was able to go for a short while yesterday too and then again today. Derek and Shelby haven't made it out yet because the wind keeps whipping up the lake and making it unsafe to go. Hopefully they'll get a chance this evening. Finley got to go out with Chad a few times. I couldn't tell by the look on his face whether he was having fun or not but he keeps talking about it so I guess he enjoyed it. His favorite thing has been digging in the sand and dirt and just running around.

Derek and Shelby have come over after the campfire the last two nights to play games since Chad and Anney have a boy to get to bed. We've had fun playing two new to us games, Farkle and Sequence. Tonight is our last night so we'll have another fire and more s'mores of course. We've taken turns cooking at night which has made it fun. Chad and Anney are making spaghetti tonight, Derek and Shelby made pork burritos and salads last night and we did brats and hotdogs on Monday.

Today's excitement: while flossing I unseated a crown from a front/side tooth and it went rolling across the cabin floor. I'm glad it's not hurting but am not excited to have to get into the dentist as soon as we get home. I'm a little worried that he's not going to be able to cement it on again as there's not much base left. Hope I'm not headed for another implant.

Finley's funny: after his first trip out in the kayak Finley wanted to ride in the other one. Chad attempted to put him off by saying "that one doesn't work." Finley stated that we needed to buy new batteries for  it!

Moon Lake at last!

We're finally here! The last time we were here was in 2014 and three years is WAY too long for me. This is my happy place. I have so many wonderful memories from my childhood as well as memories of bringing the boys here. Now we get to share the special feeling of this place with a new generation. Finley has had so much fun today! The little boy who doesn't like to get dirty was rubbing dirt all over himself and saying that he was taking a bath in dirt. He loves visiting everyone's cabins.

We splurged and rented three cabins so everyone could have their own. We're in cabins 7, 8 and 9 right in a row. We got here a little after 2:00. Our cabin wasn't ready yet so we took the kayaks down to drop them on the beach. Ha! There's NO beach. The lake is so full. Actually Derek and Doug explored and found a small section so I'll have to go see it tomorrow. Today was mostly getting settled in. We were in charge of dinner tonight so cooked brats and hot dogs over the fire. I also brought watermelon, veggies, hummus, crackers, etc and of course we have to pull out the s'more fixings. The kids played volleyball after dinner while Doug entertained Finley in the sandbox. I took pictures of course but then sat in my chair and listened to my family laughing and having fun, watched Doug in heaven playing with his little boy, listened to the quaking aspen trees rustling and the squirrels chattering and thought, "God's in His heaven, all's right with the world." It would be perfect if only Matt and Sherlyn were here.

After marshmallows Chad and Anney took their dirty little boy back to the cabin to get him ready for bed. Derek and Shelby taught us a new dice game called Farkle.   It's fun and we had a good time but everyone was tired so we just played one game. I still had to inject my Bydureon so we called it a night. Doug's been asleep for an hour but unfortunately I'm wide awake. Oi vey. Still, a wonderful start to our Moon Lake 2017 adventure.
