Samplers

If anyone would have asked my opinion of cross-stitch samplers a couple of years ago I would have said that I didn't like them AT ALL. Funny how tastes change! My change of heart began with a trip to Maine for our 25th anniversary a few years ago. We visited the Longfellow house in Portland, Maine and I fell in love with some of the samplers displayed there. They had a reproduction pattern for one done by Zilpah Wadsworth (Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's mother) and so I purchased it as a memento from the trip. I finally finished and framed it and will hang it soon. It's a very simple, childlike sampler but I love it. Now I'm working on one from 1856 that I'm going to hang in my kitchen. I'm redoing the kitchen in a Civil War era theme/color scheme.
